A reliable journalist has confirmed that Real Madrid are interested in Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, forcing the Blues to step up talks over a new contract.

After a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge following his then-Premier League record €116 million move in 2023, Caicedo has truly exploded and established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

The Ecuador international has become undroppable for Enzo Maresca, providing balance and tenacity in the middle of the park. Naturally, Caicedo's performances have attracted the attention of potential suitors.

Al-Nassr were tentatively interested in a summer move for the 23-year-old, but Chelsea quickly made it clear that it would take significantly more than the €116m they paid for him to agree to a sale.

Now, Real Madrid are persistently linked with Caicedo. According to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, the speculation surrounding Caicedo is not entirely unfounded because Los Blancos do have a genuine interest in him.

Chelsea to hand Caicedo a new contract

However, Jacobs emphasises that Chelsea are not at all worried about the links with Real Madrid. Talks over a new contract, which had been scheduled for some time, are now in full swing, and there is confidence that Caicedo will pen fresh terms.

The Ecuadorian is still tied to the club until 2031, but Chelsea want to reward him for his consistently brilliant performances with a bumper new deal, rendering Real Madrid's advances futile.

Caicedo recently revealed that he had decided to split from his agent, which sparked fears among the Chelsea fanbase that he could look to pursue a move away.

However, it is now thought that his future will not be influenced by a change in representative. Caicedo is now represented by family members, who are receiving additional legal advice.

Given the length of Caicedo's current contract, a new deal would not necessarily entail an extension beyond 2031. Instead, it could simply be a pay rise, similar to Arsenal rewarding David Raya and Leandro Trossard with better terms but without prolonging their stay at the club.
