Mike Maignan's potential move to Chelsea in 2026 is looking increasingly possible as Milan are looking at two goalkeeper replacements.

Matteo Moretto reveals in his regular slot on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel that Milan are virtually resigned to losing Maignan in 2026 as his contract expires at the end of the season and there is little chance of a renewal.

Chelsea are considered the favourites to snap Maignan up, either for a small fee in January or on a free transfer in July.

And a further sign that such a move is on the cards has come after Moretto revealed that Milan are working on two possible replacements.

Milan target two goalkeepers

The first is Cagliari’s Elia Caprile, who has enjoyed an excellent start to the season with the Sardinians.

The former Napoli man is seen as more of a backup goalkeeper for Milan, though.

The second target is Freiburg’s Noah Atubolo. The German is regarded as a huge talent and has the Bundesliga record for successive penalty saves, five in a row.

But Milan face a battle from a number of the Bundesliga's biggest clubs. He is expected to leave in 2026 as his contract expires a year later.

Chelsea tried to sign Maignan this past summer before the Club World Cup but could not agree a transfer fee with Milan.

They agreed terms with Maignan so this contract can easily be transferred over to 2026.

Chelsea were in deep negotiations for Maignan before the Club World Cup.

The Blues had two offers for Maignan rejected by Milan, the first worth €10 million and the second increased to €15m.

Chelsea's valuation fell far below what Milan considered acceptable, with the Rossoneri demanding at least €23m or more for the France number one.

The Blues refused to increase their offer, believing that €15m was fair for a player whose contract expires in a year.

And that is where the negotiations between Milan and Chelsea for Maignan ended for 2025.

Maignan agreed to stay at Milan for this season but it seems unlikely he will prolong his stay and he would agree to a move to Chelsea in 2026.

Chelsea are looking for a new long-term number one.
