Chelsea handed transfer lifeline as surprise reunion edges closer
Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their bid to offload Bomb Squad member Axel Disasi next year.
The Frenchman, who spent the second-half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, was deemed surplus to requirements by the Chelsea hierarchy this summer, but the Blues were unable to finalise a sale.
Multiple clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia were linked with a move for Disasi, however a transfer failed to materialise and he remained a Chelsea player when the summer window slammed shut on 1 September.
The 27-year-old was forced to train away from the Chelsea first-team throughout the summer and the club have no plans to reintegrate him back into the senior squad, despite the fact Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo are all currently ruled out through injury.
It’s understood that Disasi is eager to leave Chelsea if a suitable opportunity arises, and Borussia Dortmund have now registered their interest in his services, as per BILD.
The German publication claim that Dortmund have identified Disasi as a possible replacement for Nico Schlotterbeck, who is currently set to depart the Signal Iduna Park on a free transfer next summer.
Disasi worked with Dortmund manager Niko Kovac at AS Monaco and BILD state that a reunion could be on the cards in 2026.
Axel Disasi to Borussia Dortmund?
Dortmund are desperate to finalise a new contract with Schlotterbeck, however they are now planning for life without the talented 25-year-old amid significant interest from Liverpool.
Disasi has emerged as a legitimate candidate to replace the Germany international, and he would become the third Chelsea player to join Dortmund in quick succession, following the recent moves of Carney Chukwuemeka (€20 million) and Aaron Anselmino (loan).
The Frenchman moved to Chelsea for €45m in 2023, however the Blues would likely accept a far lower fee in order to offload him next year and a move to Dortmund is now a possibility.
