Barcelona are already looking for ways to secure the future of Marcus Rashford beyond the end of the season – but Manchester United are unlikely to be happy with their approach.

The Man Utd forward joined the Blaugrana on loan in the summer after being frozen out by Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim. Rashford spent the second half of last term on loan at Aston Villa and had no future at Old Trafford under the Portuguese head coach.

United’s loss has been Barcelona’s gain, with the England international attacker making a promising start to life in Spain.

Through nine appearances, he has two goals and five assists, the latest of which came in the 2-1 Champions League loss to PSG on Wednesday.

Already, the Catalans are looking at finalising a deal to secure Rashford on a permanent basis.

Despite already having a buy option for the striker worth €30 million, Barcelona are looking at ways of further reducing the cost of the 27-year-old, according to Sport.

After struggling to sell players this summer, United are unlikely to be willing to allow a valuable asset to leave for a figure even further below his €55m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).

Nevertheless, Sport believes there could be wiggle room in a move for the attacker, claiming that the fee is “absolutely negotiable.” Another possibility is that another loan deal is agreed.

De Jong deal agreed

Details of Frenkie de Jong’s new contract at Barcelona have emerged, also via Sport.

The Netherlands star has agreed a new deal that will see him fit into the club’s new wage structure, with the former Ajax ace set to receive around €12 million a year for his new agreement, which will run until 2029.

De Jong, who was for so long linked with a transfer to Man Utd, will be paid in the same bracket as Pedri.
