Arsenal are top of the Premier League table as the second international break of the season arrives, and manager Mikel Arteta is ready to use the break to finalise a huge deal for the Gunners.

The North London side had a huge net spend in the summer, yet this investment has paid off with the Emirates side winning five of their opening seven matches of the season.

Their latest success arrived via a 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, with Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka getting the goals that steered Arsenal to the top position in the league.

And now Saka, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €105m, is ready to commit himself to a new long-term contract with his boyhood side.

FootballTransfers exclusively reported in September that Saka’s new contract was close, and the expectation is that the details will be tidied up in a matter of days.

Sporting director Andrea Berta is eager to use the international break to complete the formalities and have the 24-year-old join William Saliba in signing a new deal with the club, TBR Football reports.

Arteta has previously hinted that things are progressing nicely.

Speaking to the media, he said: “From everything that I know, he is a player who is extremely happy, and proud to have the role that he has at the football club.

“Things will develop in a natural way, like they always do, and everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us. Hopefully we can do it.”

Saka to become Arsenal’s biggest earner

Saka is expected to receive a salary of at least €320,000 (£280,000) per week – which matches that of Arsenal’s top earner, Kai Havertz.

The England winger is currently paid an estimated €220,000 (£190,000), so will receive a massive pay rise with this new deal.

He will be left some way short of the Gunners’ all-time highest earner, which was Mesut Ozil. Though the playmaker split the fanbase due to his laidback on-field attitude, he was paid around €400,000 (£350,000) a week during his peak.

Saka may one day eclipse this figure if he continues to shine for Arsenal – but that is only likely to come when he sits down to renegotiate terms again in several years.
