Arsenal and Liverpool on alert as Gordon release clause revealed
Anthony Gordon has a release clause in his contract which could see the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool formalise their interest in the Newcastle star next summer.
Gordon has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout left wingers since moving to St James’ Park for €45 million in 2023, which led to Newcastle handing him a new and improved long-term contract a year ago.
The renewal came after it was revealed that Gordon was close to joining Liverpool last summer due to Newcastle’s PSR struggles, with the Magpies eventually selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead.
Gordon has since become a regular international for England under Thomas Tuchel and is expected to be a part of the World Cup squad next summer, while Arsenal and Liverpool both had interest in the 24-year-old during the summer.
And a report by The i Paper has claimed that Gordon has a release clause in his deal similar to that of Bruno Guimaraes, who signed a new contract in 2023 that made him available for £100m (€115m) for June that summer.
While it is unclear what the conditions of Gordon’s release clause are, the situation could see further uncertainty surrounding his future if his profile continues to grow in the coming months.
Gordon returning to peak form for club and country after patchy year
Gordon has had an inconsistent 2025 so far, having initially displayed strong form before missing Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final win through suspension and then eventually suffering a two-month absence through injury.
The winger’s return to the team saw him struggle to find form to end the season and he began the new campaign slowly after being used as a makeshift centre-forward due to the situation surrounding Alexander Isak and being sent off against Liverpool in August.
However, after returning to his natural wide role, Gordon has found some form again, scoring against Barcelona in the Champions League as well as a brace against Union SG.
He then netted his second goal for England this week against Latvia and has insisted he is committed to Newcastle, giving Gordon the platform to have a strong campaign and take control of his future.
