Kane's €65m release clause: England captain's best transfer options ranked
Harry Kane has a €65 million release clause in his Bayern Munich contract, according to German media.
The 32-year-old has been an undeniable success for the reigning Bundesliga champions since joining the club for €100 million in 2023. Kane has scored a whopping 98 goals and provided 29 assists in 103 appearances.
A ridiculous 13 of those goals have already come this season - in just seven games. After braces against Hamburg and Chelsea in the Champions League, he netted a hat-trick against Hoffenheim at the weekend.
Kane is in irresistible form right now, but with the January window approaching, the spectre of a potential departure looms large. As already reported earlier this year and now reiterated by BILD, Kane is one of the few Bayern players with a release clause in his contract.
Prior to his arrival, the Munich side flat-out refused to give players exit clauses, but an exception had to be made to land the England captain. Jamal Musiala has since also been granted this privilege, while reports of Michael Olise having a release clause appear unfounded.
Kane's top three transfer options
Fortunately for Bayern, Kane has so far shown no desire to depart. Moreover, getting him out of Bavaria via his clause would be anything but straightforward.
Kane can only leave Bayern in the summer, but he already has to inform the club of his desire to exercise the clause in January. Then, of course, he would have to find a club willing to pay €65 million for a 32-year-old. There are very few European sides capable of - and willing to - do this.
Nevertheless, it is intriguing to imagine Kane returning to the Premier League or perhaps moving to LaLiga, so we consulted data analytics firm SciSports to find his three best-suited clubs.
The top option for the Three Lions star is Barcelona, with a Club Fit rating of 77. This makes sense given that Robert Lewandowski could leave the Blaugrana in 2026.
His second-best-suited club is, somewhat surprisingly, Newcastle. The Magpies, of course, struggled to bring in an adequate replacement for Alexander Isak and ultimately had to overspend on Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, neither of whom is really a traditional No.9.
Perhaps even more surprising is Kane's third-best option: Man City. Stylistically, the veteran would fit them like a glove, but he certainly wouldn't settle for a backup role to Erling Haaland, making this somewhat unrealistic despite Pep Guardiola's well-documented appreciation of him.
