Man Utd stars 'perplexed' by Kobbie Mainoo stance as rivals eye shock January move
Kobbie Mainoo’s Manchester United team-mates are reportedly “perplexed” by his lack of involvement so far this season.
The England midfielder is yet to start a Premier League match for the Red Devils in 2025-26 and he has only amassed 73 minutes of English top flight action since the beginning of the new campaign.
Mainoo has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and the Man Utd boss has admitted that he is currently battling club captain Bruno Fernandes for a place in his preferred starting XI at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old was desperate to leave Man Utd on loan during the summer transfer window, as per multiple sources, however the Red Devils blocked a possible exit and he was forced to remain at his boyhood club.
Mainoo established himself as an integral player under Erik ten Hag, but his influence has waned significantly since the appointment of Amorim last year and Man Utd stars are “perplexed” by his limited game time this campaign, according to talkSPORT.
Newcastle want Kobbie Mainoo
Several Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Mainoo in 2025, with Chelsea strong suitors during the January transfer window and Brighton & Hove Albion interested in a surprise move this summer, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers.
Tottenham Hotspur are known admirers of the 20-year-old too, while Newcastle United have now joined the race for his signature.

That is according to talkSPORT, who claim that Eddie Howe is eager to rest Man Utd’s resolve with an official bid in January.
The Magpies boss has favoured an athletic midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton over the past 12 months, but he is evidently keen to add Mainoo to his squad amid the Englishman’s uncertain future at Man Utd.
