Manchester United will reportedly only sack Ruben Amorim if they look set to miss out on European football yet again this season.

The Red Devils boss is under increasing pressure to improve results at Old Trafford following an underwhelming start to the new campaign, with fans eager for the 40-year-old to show greater tactical flexibility.

Amorim has persisted with his favoured 3-4-3 system this campaign, despite its obvious flaws, and he has insisted that Man Utd will need to change head coach if they want a new philosophy to be introduced.

The Red Devils have picked up just 31 Premier League points since Amorim was appointed as the permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag last November - which is the lowest tally of any ever-present English top flight club during that time.

Despite this, INEOS still believe he is the right man for the job.

In fact, according to GiveMeSport, Sir Jim Ratcliffe feels the squad has enough quality to qualify for the Champions League this year and he will not seriously discuss Amorim’s future unless Man Utd look on course to miss out on European football.

Sky Sports have also confirmed that Man Utd currently have no plans to change their head coach.

Should Man Utd sack Ruben Amorim?

Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have all admitted that Amorim could be sacked by Man Utd if results don't improve soon and fellow Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney believes that he is running out of time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

He told The Wayne Rooney Show: “I want to be as supportive and positive as I can be on the manager and the players, but it is very difficult to sit here and say we are seeing progression, and at least we're seeing things that will get results in the near future. We're seeing none of that, and it is very difficult.

“There was an image towards the end of the game [vs Manchester City] where I saw the Man Utd fans leaving. You could hear the fans singing Amorim's name, but I think that is so powerful that the Man Utd fans were leaving the game.

“You know the game is over and I think they were very disappointed in what they were seeing. It is hard to see how it continues. What are the patterns? What are we seeing what might improve the team moving forward?"

Rooney added: “I think after the last year when Ten Hag got sacked and Ruben came in, we're hearing how they're going to play and it is going to change. I think if the manager is honest with himself, it has got worse.”

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the bookies’ favourite to replace Amorim at Old Trafford, while Gareth Southgate has once again been linked with the job, despite stepping away from management since resigning from the England national team last year.
