OFFICIAL: Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho joins Aston Villa
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has officially joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan.
Another member of the Red Devils' famous 'Bomb Squad' has departed. Sancho initially looked set to head to Italy or Germany, but he has ultimately opted to remain in England.
Talks with Juventus and Roma did not yield an agreement, while the likes of Bayern and Dortmund only briefly explored a move before prioritising different targets.
It therefore required the intervention of Aston Villa to get Sancho out of his Old Trafford nightmare, with the Birmingham club managing to agree a season-long loan with Man Utd.
Crucially, Unai Emery and company also managed to secure buy-in from the player, which is what had doomed talks with Roma. Sancho has now officially joined Aston Villa, who will pay 80 per cent of his wages.
Sancho joins Aston Villa
Although Sancho has struggled to live up to the hype in recent years, he is a welcome arrival at Villa Park in what has been a very quiet transfer window due to the club's well-documented problems with financial regulations.
This has affected the performances of Emery's side, with Villa having endured a horror start to the campaign. They have yet to score a goal and have lost two out of three matches.
Emery has shown that he can revive faltering careers, doing so with Sancho's Man Utd teammate Marcus Rashford just earlier this year. However, getting a tune out of the 25-year-old will arguably be more difficult.
The winger is coming off a middling loan spell at Chelsea and has struggled massively to perform up to the level expected of him. Sancho is no longer the player he was at Dortmund and will need to massively up his game if he is to succeed at Villa.
