Manchester United are hoping to replace Casemiro by reportedly targeting another Real Madrid midfielder next summer in an ambitious move.

Ruben Amorim has been rueing the decision to not sign a midfielder in their €250 million summer spending spree, having seen his side often outclassed in the middle of the park which has led to just one win in their first five games of the season.

The situation has led to a midfielder becoming the top priority for United next year and there is a desire to ensure a world-class, athletic and technical option is targeted, particularly with Casemiro's contract expiring next summer and doubts over the long-term future of Kobbie Mainoo.

Such a profile has seemingly led the club to turn to Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde, with fichajes claiming that United are willing to make a €100m offer next summer for the 27-year-old.

Valverde has been a mainstay in Real’s midfield since his arrival in 2016 but a sale is reportedly not being ruled out due to the money the club feel they can raise through his departure.

Real are keen to sign a playmaker such as Enzo Fernandez or Adam Wharton and United are hoping they can offer a strong enough financial package to convince both the Spanish giants and Valverde to consider the switch to Old Trafford.

Valverde and Real not pushing to sever ties despite United links

Valverde is considered a key player for Xabi Alonso, having been a reliable figure all through midfield as well as down the right flank both as a winger and defender in recent times.

With four years remaining on his contract, Real are under no pressure to sell, while Valverde himself is not thought to be pushing to leave Madrid anytime soon.

However, United have always proven to be a tempting proposition for all players, even with their decline and current absence from European football.

Much will depend on the coming campaign for all parties, with United only likely to convince Valverde of their credentials if they qualify for Europe this season, while Real and the player appear content to continue their relationship barring a significant change in fortunes for either side.
