Marc Guehi to Liverpool deal in jeopardy - David Ornstein
David Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool's deal to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is hanging in the balance.
There has been a fresh twist in one of the most drawn-out sagas of the summer. Liverpool thought they had an agreement in place with Crystal Palace and Marc Guehi as recently as an hour ago, but everything has rapidly changed.
The England international received the green light from Palace to undergo his medical with the Reds when the Selhurst Park outfit looked set to sign Brighton defender Igor.
However, as was feared, West Ham strongly entered the race for the Brazilian and, despite being in the process of completing his Palace medical, the Brazilian opted to set off for East London to do his physical examination with the Hammers.
West Ham now look set to successfully hijack Palace's deal for the Brighton defender, leaving Palace scrambling for a Guehi replacement - and this is a major problem for Liverpool.
Liverpool deal in jeopardy
Palace's stance in recent weeks has been that they will only sanction the sale of Guehi if a suitable replacement is found, and David Ornstein has now confirmed that the collapse of Igor's move has thrown the England star's Liverpool transfer into doubt.
Guehi is holding talks with Palace head coach Oliver Glasner right now to arrive at a decision on his future. This doesn't bode well for the Reds as the Austrian coach has repeatedly insisted that the defender simply can't be sold this late in the window.
However, as things stand, the deal is not completely off yet, and perhaps Glasner can be convinced to soften his stance. Palace are set to sign Toulouse youngster Jaydee Canvot, but he is not viewed as a ready-made replacement for Guehi.
With just one hour remaining until the window slams shut, it looks almost like an impossible job for Palace to find a proven successor for Guehi, leaving Liverpool fretting over their €40 million deal for the 25-year-old.
