Liverpool signing suddenly in DOUBT as HIJACK prepared
West Ham are looking to hijack Crystal Palace's signing of Brighton defender Igor, leaving Liverpool fretting over their deal for Marc Guehi.
The England defender is set to undergo a medical in London ahead of a proposed €40 million transfer to Liverpool, with the Reds only waiting for the final green light from Steve Parish to complete the signing of Guehi.
This green light will come once Crystal Palace have managed to secure an adequate replacement. An agreement has been reached for Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot, but the teenager is a long-term option, not a ready-made Guehi successor.
Experienced Brighton defender Igor, on the other hand, is a more secure option to replace Guehi, and the Brazilian is already undergoing his Palace medical.
It is believed that Palace will permit Guehi to join Liverpool once the signing of Igor is under wraps. However, this deal is now in jeopardy because he also has suitors elsewhere in the Premier League.
West Ham to ruin Guehi move?
According to Sky Sports, West Ham are also concretely interested in Igor and could look to hijack Palace's move for the defender. While no bid has as yet been made, the Hammers are still in the race for the 27-year-old.
Igor's proposed move to Palace is a loan with an option to purchase him in the future, so it should not be too difficult for West Ham to offer a similar deal and reach an agreement with Brighton.
It would then come down to the player's decision. Palace play in Europe, which could give them an edge over West Ham, but as things stand, the East London club remain firmly in the race for his signature.
This would be a devastating blow not only for Liverpool, who would miss out on Guehi, but also for AC Milan, who have been in talks to sign Joe Gomez from the Premier League champions. The Reds will only allow Gomez to leave if Guehi arrives.
