Fabrizio Romano has announced one last twist in Chelsea’s summer transfer window, declaring a deal has been completed after the transfer window officially closed.

Chelsea have once again been one of the busiest clubs in the world during the window. Enzo Maresca’s side have completed nearly 50 deals over the course of the summer, and Romano has announced what may prove to be the last.

Blues fans would be forgiven for forgetting that Ben Chilwell was on their books. The England international left-back, though, is an employee at Stamford Bridge no longer.

Strasbourg agree a deal to sign Ben Chilwell on a two-year contract, here we go!” Romano tweeted. “Medical done and Chilwell joins an ambitious project at Strasbourg with Liam Rosenior with European football.”

Chilwell to get his career back on track at Strasbourg

Torino were previously linked with a move for the 28-year-old, but Strasbourg emerged as an option for him in the past couple of days.

Chilwell will sign a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 side, according to The Athletic.

His move to the BlueCo-owned club comes as little surprise given the strong links that have been forged between the teams.

Chiwell will become the fifth player this season to move from Chelsea to Racing, who will compete in this season’s Conference League. On top of this, the French outfit have also signed Julio Enciso from Brighton for €18.5 million in a club-record deal. The Paraguay international is widely expected to join the Blues next summer.

For Chilwell, meanwhile, the move to France will provide him with an opportunity to get his career back on track after a difficult season in which he was frozen out at Chelsea before an unsuccessful loan period at Crystal Palace.
