Celtic open talks to sign Chelsea striker after HIJACK
Celtic have opened talks with Chelsea over David Datro Fofana after having a deal to sign Kasper Dolberg hijacked by Ajax.
The Hoops are in the market for a striker to replace Adam Idah, who appears to be set to sign for Championship outfit Swansea. Celtic's initial top target was Anderlecht star Dolberg, and they appeared to be making progress on a deal.
However, a crucial domino fell when Sunderland struck an agreement with Ajax to sign Brian Brobbey, which forced the Dutch giants into the market for a replacement.
Dolberg, who has put up decent numbers in Belgium after a few difficult years, quickly emerged as an ideal target for the Amsterdam side, having previously played for the club.
According to Sky Sports, Ajax are making progress in hijacking Celtic's deal for the Denmark international, which means that the Parkhead side have started looking at alternatives.
Celtic make Fofana offer
The report states that forgotten Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has become a target for Celtic and that a loan approach has already been made for the Ivorian.
The Blues were previously unequivocal in their stance that Fofana had to be sold permanently this summer, but perhaps this attitude has softened with just a short while to go before the window closes.
Fofana has also fielded interest from France, but nothing has come of talks with Toulouse and Nice, with the former reportedly reluctant to match his wages and the latter unwilling to sign him permanently.
Fofana joined Chelsea in 2022 and has four years remaining on his contract, but he has not actually played for the Stamford Bridge outfit since May 2023, which was one of just four senior appearances for the Blues.
