Chelsea make Enzo Maresca sack decision
Enzo Maresca reportedly retains the full backing of the Chelsea hierarchy, despite rumours that he could be sacked if results fail to improve.
The 45-year-old guided Chelsea to Europa Conference League and Club World Cup glory last season, however the Blues have endured a tricky start to the 2025-26 campaign and fans have been quick to blame Maresca.
The west London giants have only won three of their eight matches in all competitions so far this season - versus West Ham United, Fulham and Lincoln City - and they face a crucial week with clashes against Benfica and Liverpool on the agenda.
Maresca has been criticised for his in-game substitutions in Chelsea’s last two Premier League matches and rumours have suggested that he could be sacked if the Blues’ underwhelming start to 2025-26 continues.
The Chelsea hierarchy even entered the dressing room following the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon, however Maresca is reportedly unlikely to lose his job at Stamford Bridge, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law.
Enzo Maresca to keep Chelsea job
Law posted on X: “Understand Enzo Maresca retains the full faith of the Chelsea board and sporting directors.
“No sense of panic over mini-slump particularly after the much bigger slump Maresca and his team recovered from last season. Injuries and red cards seen as biggest factor in recent results. Chelsea's aim remains to finish inside top four and have a run in the cups.”
Law has also confirmed that Chelsea still plan to wait until the end of the season before they assess Maresca’s position at the club.
The Blues have reportedly set Maresca the target of qualifying for the Champions League for the second consecutive year and enjoying a deep run in domestic cup competitions. As a result, a mid-season managerial change is unlikely to occur.
