REVEALED: Arsenal’s smartest summer signing's value has TRIPLED already
Arsenal are already starting to see the return from their summer transfer window, with positive results on the field and a squad with a growing value off it.
Mikel Arteta’s side is the most valuable in world football, clocking in with a combined Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €1.38 billion. That puts Arsenal marginally ahead of Manchester City (€1.31bn) and Real Madrid (€1.26bn).
While the Gunners spent big in the summer, they also spent smart. No one encapsulates this more than Cristhian Mosquera, who has seen his value triple since leaving Valencia for North London this summer.
Mosquera arrived at Arsenal in a deal worth just €15 million. Already this price is looking like a robbery. At the time, he had had ETV of €13.9m, but that has grown rapidly to €37.8m.
The 21-year-old had been signed as a support player to William Saliba and Gabriel in the heart of Arteta’s defence, but he has been pressed into regular early action because of an injury to the Frenchman.
That has been of little urgent concern to Arsenal, though. While on the field, Arsenal have conceded only one goal with Mosquera in the heart of their backline – Dominic Szoboszlai’s incredible free-kick for Liverpool.
Why has Mosquera’s value grown so quickly?
There are three reasons why Mosquera’s value has exploded over a matter of weeks:
- He was out of contract at the end of the season with Valencia
- Playing a higher level of football in the Premier League and Champions League
- Exceptional performances
And the Spain U23 international’s value is likely to keep rising.
Data analytics firm SciSports rank Mosquera among the 10 biggest central defensive prospects aged 21 or under.
Crucially, his prospects of reaching this height look good. Among this elite group, he places second in current ability only behind Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini and is rated more highly than the likes of Leny Yoro and Jorrel Hato, who was a player Arsenal have been linked with in the past.
Mosquera’s arrival may not have been greeted with the same fanfare as Arsenal’s other big summer signings, but there’s already evidence to suggest that he will be the smartest piece of business that the Gunners have done this summer.
