'Announcement soon' - Fabrizio Romano confirms HUGE Arsenal transfer news
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that William Saliba has signed a new contract at Arsenal.
News started to emerge over the last 24-48 hours that a deal was done to extend Saliba's contract at the Emirates and Romano has now confirmed those reports.
Romano says that Saliba has agreed a new contract at Arsenal until 2030.
All documents have been counter-signed and an announcement will be made soon by the Gunners.
Saliba signs new contract
The Gunners have been in negotiations for months to extend Saliba's contract, which was up for expiry in 2027.
Manager Mikel Arteta hinted recently that a new deal was not far away but fears remained over interest from Real Madrid, who had made Saliba their top defensive target for 2026.
Madrid will now back away from the centre back following the news of this renewal.
Saliba has been integral to Arsenal’s progress under Arteta in recent years and is considered by many as the best defender in the Premier League.
He has formed arguably the strongest centre back partnership in England alongside Gabriel.
The 24-year-old Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 for £27 million.
After a series of loans, he established himself as a key player from the 2022-23 season as Arsenal twice finished runners-up in the Premier League.
He has made 139 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.
Saliba has also become a first-team starter for France over the last year or so, playing in their journey to the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
He has won 28 caps for France and was also part of their squad for the 2022 World Cup where they reached the final.
