Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign attacker Dan Casey, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners had offered the 18-year-old a professional contract, but Casey rejected the proposal in search of regular football elsewhere. Talks over a deal with Crystal Palace have been taking place for a while.

The Eagles' interest in Casey stems from the fact that they lost highly rated winger Jesse Derry to Chelsea in the summer after he rejected a pro deal at Selhurst Park.

According to journalists Bobby Manzi and Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace and Arsenal have now settled on a compensation package for the teenager, with moves for academy players facing more stringent regulations than first-team deals.

The issue of compensation has been settled between the two clubs and will not need the intervention of a tribunal, as is the case with Derry's move to Chelsea. The jury is still out on the fee Palace will be owed by the Blues.

Who is Dan Casey?

Romano reports that Casey will undergo his Crystal Palace medical within the next 24 hours to formally complete his transfer. Born in London in 2007, the versatile attacker is eligible to represent both England and Italy at the international level.

Casey had spent most of his youth with Arsenal, joining the North London outfit's academy in 2015. All told, he scored 24 goals in 35 appearances for the Gunners' U18s.

The youngster is expected to initially play with Palace's U21s, but he has clearly been presented with a development path that will lead him directly to Oliver Glasner's first team further down the road.

Casey is primarily an attack-minded player, but he has also previously featured in more withdrawn midfield roles. He can also play as a striker and out on the wings.
