The England international was withdrawn at half-time after holding his knee during the latter stages of the first-half and Arsenal initially feared that he may have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury - which would’ve ruled him out for the majority of the season.

However, a scan has revealed that Madueke has avoided rupturing his ACL, as confirmed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein. Despite this, the Englishman is still set to miss the next two months of action due to the injury.

Madueke had started five of Arsenal’s six matches across all competitions since his arrival from Chelsea in July, but he now faces a fairly lengthy period on the treatment table.

Bukayo Saka will be expected to immediately replace Madueke on the right flank following his return from a hamstring issue, although youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman could be given a chance in the ex-Chelsea star’s absence.

In addition to Madueke, Arsenal are also without Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and club captain Martin Odegaard, while William Saliba and the aforementioned Saka have also missed games through injury so far this season.

Noni Madueke suffers knee injury

Although Madueke is yet to register a goal contribution for Arsenal, he has caught the eye with his impressive dynamism in the final-third since arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

Fans protested against the signing back in July, however the England international appears to have won over the Arsenal supporters and his injury lay-off is a hammer blow for the Gunners as they look to compete on multiple fronts over the next few months.

Madueke could return to action in late November, although Mikel Arteta may be cautious with the 23-year-old and he could wait until December before reintroducing the winger into the fold.
