It was a miserable international break for Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres, but teammate Leandro Trossard is 'the biggest loser' of the past week, according to a Belgian journalist.

The Belgian national team enjoyed what was, on the whole, a thoroughly enjoyable international break, with the Red Devils winning both of their World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan 6-0.

Arsenal star Trossard, who has been in the news lately due to interest from Besiktas, came off the bench against Liechtenstein and started against Kazakhstan.

However, the 30-year-old attacker did not manage to get on the scoresheet and is at serious risk of being supplanted by younger, more exciting players such as Jeremy Doku and Malick Fofana, according to journalist Frank Raes.

“The biggest loser of the past two matches may well be Trossard,” he wrote in Gazet Van Antwerpen. "He’s also on the bench at Arsenal. The national team and Trossard haven’t been a successful combination yet. He’s stuck around a bit, just like [Lois] Openda.”

Gyokeres also struggled

Trossard's Gunners teammate Viktor Gyokeres also did not have the best of times in his two outings with Sweden over the past week, playing the full 90 minutes in both games without scoring.

Unlike Trossard, Gyokeres has actually been successful for his country, previously carrying his prolific Sporting CP form over onto the international stage. However, he struggled against Slovenia and Kosovo.

Although he was credited with an assist in the 2-2 draw with Slovenia, he didn't know much about it. He tried to control a difficult cross, and the ball fortuitously bounced to the feet of Yasin Ayari.

Gyokeres was also ineffective as Sweden suffered an incredibly chastening 2-0 defeat to Kosovo on Monday evening, which has seen the national team come in for fierce criticism by local media. Sportbladet described Sweden as having been 'crushed' by Kosovo.
