Antwerp mock Man Utd over high Lammens price
Antwerp sporting director Marc Overmars has boasted about the high price he managed to negotiate to sell Senne Lammens to Man Utd.
United signed Lammens from Antwerp on Deadline Day for a €21 million fee plus an undisclosed amount of add-ons, likely taking the deal up or at least close to the Belgian side's €25m asking price.
Lammens has not even made his debut yet for United, despite the exit of Andre Onana to Trabzonspor on loan, with the much-maligned Altay Bayindir preferred.
This has raised questions - from the likes of Paul Scholes - over whether Lammens is ready or good enough for United.
Overmars boasts about sale
Antwerp sporting director Overmars, meanwhile, is delighted at the business his club did for a player that cost them nothing when he arrived from Club Brugge in 2023.
“If you have zero euros to spend in the past two seasons and from that point of view you raise 45 million euros, then you get a 10 in the business world," Overmars said, also referring to the sale of Mahamadou Doumbia to Al-Ittihad.
“Value for money, that’s what it’s called. We got Senne for zero euros and Doumbia for four hundred thousand. That’s different from investing 18 million and hoping for something to come out of it.”
Lammens made 63 appearances over two seasons for Antwerp, while is still uncapped by Belgium despite earning his first call-up earlier this year.
