Son Heung-min’s next club announced after Spurs bombshell
Tottenham Hotspur have been left rocked by the announcement from Son Heung-min that he will leave the club after 10 years.
Rumours have been circulating persistently for several weeks that Son could be on his way out of Thomas Frank’s team, and the South Korea attacker has now confirmed the truth behind these.
Speaking in his homeland during the club’s pre-season tour, Son was clearly emotional about the decision and broke down in tears as he discussed the issue with the media.
“I just want to share the information that I have decided to leave this club this summer. Respectfully, this club is helping me to make my decision,” the 33-year-old said.
“It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. I have spent 10 years at Tottenham. The main reason is that I have achieved everything I can at Tottenham. I need a new environment for a fresh challenge. I’m grateful the club have respected my decision and wish Spurs well for the next season.”
Who is Son signing for?
Son Heung-min will head to MLS to play for LAFC, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs.
The transfer is currently being negotiated with Tottenham, with talks said to be in an “advanced” state, the insider explained on X.
It even appears that Son could head directly to the US after Spurs’ friendly with Newcastle on Sunday, with LAFC already having a delegation in South Korea to broker the move.
The veteran says that the World Cup is a key consideration in his thinking.
Although Son would not reveal the identity of his next team, he did respond to a question asking what he is looking for in his next side.
“In choosing the next team, the World Cup will definitely be one of the key points that I will consider. It might be my last World Cup so I need my new environment to give all that I've got for my football career. As well as the World Cup, I will also need to find a team that will make me happy while playing football,” he said.
Son has played 454 games, scoring 173 goals, marking him down as one of Tottenham’s all-time greats.
