Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has made a major transfer decision that will affect the rest of his career.

Jackson has been pushed away from Stamford Bridge after Enzo Maresca’s side made big-money moves to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town this summer.

Relegated to third-choice and surplus to requirements, the 24-year-old has attracted interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

A report from The Telegraph earlier this week indicated that his favoured destination was Newcastle, yet in a stunning about turn, it is now claimed that Jackson favours a move to the Birmingham giants.

The former Villarreal striker wants to be reunited with Unai Emery, his former coach in Spain, at Villa Park. Indeed, it is Emery’s influence that has been decisive in this decision.

Jackson is said to have told friends about his desire to hook up with his former mentor, according to FootballInsider.

Nico Jackson: Chelsea want big money

Chelsea are open to a sale. Jackson has requested a move and has been training alone after being left out of the club’s pre-season friendlies with Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.

It is a situation that suits Chelsea, who are seeking to raise money by selling off unwanted squad players.

He was signed in the summer of 2023 for €37 million, signing a contract until 2033, and provided a decent return on that figure. He was often a maligned figure but produced 24 Premier League goals in 65 appearances, plus 10 assists on top of that figure.

Aston Villa and Newcastle are both eager to secure more depth in the No.9 role, but Jackson will not come cheap.

Chelsea are said to value him at around €75m while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €65m.

The Blues have proven to be increasingly shrewd operators in the transfer market but will do well to fetch their asking price in this case.
