Man Utd get FREE Sesko run – Chelsea error creates dream transfer scenario
Manchester United could be granted a free run at dream transfer target Benjamin Sesko thanks to a mistake made by Chelsea 12 months ago.
Sesko finds himself subject to interest from both Man Utd and Newcastle United in a dramatic transfer tug-of-war.
The two Premier League clubs are vying to sign the RB Leipzig striker in a huge summer deal, with Eddie Howe’s Magpies having already made a first bid this weekend.
But Newcastle are not taking anything for granted and are monitoring another potential striking option in an update that will certainly have caught the attention of Man Utd and head coach Ruben Amorim.
Eduardo Burgos reports on X: “Newcastle United are interested in the situation of Samu Aghehowa.
“They have been monitoring his progress since the beginning of the year. He is one of the options being considered for the forward position, although they have not yet made an offer.
“Porto want to keep him for another season. They are asking for €80 million.”
Chelsea let Samu slip
Aghehowa, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €70m, scored 19 times in 30 Liga Portugal matches last season following a €20m move from Atletico Madrid, yet he might easily have wound up at Chelsea 12 months ago.
The Blues were involved in a dramatic transfer saga for the player – then better known as Samu Omorodion – as the deal collapsed due to a late hiccup related to the player’s image rights. He had even passed his Chelsea medical before the deal collapsed in a twist that now plays into the hands of Man Utd.
Newcastle are eyeing up a big-money move for Samu, who is still 50% owned by Atletico Madrid and recently scored twice in the Club World Cup as Porto surprisingly crashed out at the first round.
With Porto announcing the signing of Luuk de Jong over the weekend, a deal certainly seems possible.
Under significant financial constraints due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they would be unable to sign both Sesko and Samu in the same window, offering Man Utd the free run at the Slovenia international that they crave.
