Manchester United may face an uphill task to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, but Fabrizio Romano says the Red Devils are not about to give up on a player Ruben Amorim views as “perfect” for his side.

Romano has detailed previously that Man Utd had attempted to enter negotiations with the Seagulls only to be rebuffed. The Red Devils were told that Baleba was not for sale, no matter what price they were offered.

But Romano has revealed that Man Utd are willing to be dogged in their pursuit of the 20-year-old former Lille star.

Man Utd to move for Baleba in 2026

“Brighton closed the doors to the exit of Baleba this summer. They told Man Utd the player is not for sale. They told them that it’s not about a number - £110 or £120 million – they said they don’t want to sell the player. They really put a big wall in front of Manchester United,” Romano revealed on his YouTube channel.

“Manchester United will keep Baleba on their list and maintain their interest. If it’s not going to happen this summer, Man Utd will still consider Baleba a target for 2026. They love the player.

“They really appreciate how the player was in for the move even during a difficult moment for Man Utd. It was a difficult moment last season, really poor in the Premier League and not qualifying for European football.

“Baleba was very keen and Man Utd appreciated that. Ruben Amorim is a big fan of the player, the management team really like him and Man Utd will keep a close eye on the situation.

“If it’s not going to be possible for this summer, and it looks difficult, for 2026, Man Utd maintain Carlos Baleba as a target because they see him as a perfect player.”

FootballTransfers understands that Feyenoord’s Quentin Timber has emerged as a potential Baleba alternative for Man Utd this summer.
