Man Utd submit €85m offer for Benjamin Sesko - Ornstein
Manchester United have reportedly submitted an €85 million offer for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as they attempt to beat Newcastle United to his signature.
The Slovenia international has been identified as the priority centre forward target by both Man Utd and Newcastle, and he is now expected to join one of the two clubs before the end of the summer transfer window.
Sesko is open to joining either club and BILD speculate that he is pitting them against each other in a “game of poker.”
The German publication have now confirmed that Man Utd have lodged a new proposal for Sesko in response to Newcastle’s second offer for the 22-year-old.
Ruben Amorim’s side have reportedly submitted an offer of €85m, including add-ons, for the Slovenia striker, with Newcastle expected to bid again as they look to win the race for his signature. This has been backed up by The Athletic's David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, with Man Utd's offer consisting of an initial €75m, plus €10m in add-ons.
Benjamin Sesko update
Man Utd view Sesko as the ideal player to replace Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford, with the Denmark international heavily linked with a summer departure, while Newcastle want to sign the 22-year-old due to concerns over Alexander Isak’s future at the club.
The Sweden star recently handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to Liverpool and Arne Slot’s side are willing to submit a Premier League record offer in order to finalise a deal before Transfer Deadline Day.
Newcastle are determined to keep Isak, but they have lined up a move for Sesko as a possible replacement.
The Leipzig star scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions last season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €69.6m.
Meanwhile, Man Utd and Newcastle have both been tipped to pursue a move for Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins if they fail to finalise a deal for Sesko.
