Man Utd accept bid to sell Antony - Sky Sports
Manchester United have accepted a bid from Real Betis for winger Antony, according to Sky Sports.
The Brazilian is on the verge of getting his wish after a summer of tense negotiations. Antony has been unequivocal in his desire to return to Real Betis following his brilliant six-month loan in Seville.
However, discussions between Real Betis and Man Utd have proved incredibly difficult. Given that the Red Devils invested a whopping €95 million on the 25-year-old in 2022, they have sought to recoup a large chunk of this fee.
Real Betis, of course, are not a side blessed with notable affluence, with the LaLiga outfit having struggled financially after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why they tried all summer to get Man Utd to agree to another loan.
It initially looked as though the Old Trafford outfit would eventually yield and accept this formula as Deadline Day inched closer, but there has been a significant twist in recent days.
Real Betis to sign Antony permanently
Contrary to what Betis had hoped, Man Utd have remained firm in their stance that Antony will only be allowed to leave permanently, forcing the Spanish side to discuss an outright purchase of the winger.
According to Sky Sports, there has now been a breakthrough in the negotiations, and Man Utd have accepted a bid for the sale of Antony. However, the report did not disclose the value of Betis' offer.
Over the past 24 hours, it has been suggested that Betis are willing to offer around €25m, but this is reportedly below Man Utd's valuation, so it remains to be seen how much it will have ultimately required to get the Premier League side to agree to a sale.
The report mentions that Antony now has to agree personal terms with the LaLiga club, but despite his hefty wage, this is unlikely to be a problem given that he has been pushing for a move back to Betis all summer.
Antony has been given permission by Man Utd to return to Seville to finalise his move.
