Xavi Simons takes drastic action to force Chelsea move – Fabrizio Romano
Xavi Simons will sign for Chelsea if he gets his way, with the RB Leipzig star electing to take drastic action to force through his move to the Premier League giants, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says.
Simons has agreed personal terms in principle with the Stamford Bridge outfit, but transfer talks have yet to come to an agreement.
With Chelsea poised to complete a deal to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax, the Netherlands attacker appears to be growing agitated at the situation and has taken a leaf out of the book of Alexander Isak by failing to report for training.
Romano reports on X: “Xavi Simons did not train with RB Leipzig group on Friday… and he’s not expected to be part of the squad today.
“His decision is clearly oriented to Chelsea's move, after deleting Leipzig from Instagram bio.
“Negotiations at advanced stages between Chelsea and Leipzig.”
Simos is expected to provide another source of offensive imagination at Stamford Bridge, having scored 11 and created eight goals across 33 appearances last season, during which he was hampered by injury.
Simons frustrated by delay
One of the reasons for the delay in a deal is that Chelsea need to make sales to fund a move, which is expected to come in around the €70 million mark. RB Leipzig are likely to demand a sell-on clause on top of this figure, which matches the one they want for Benjamin Sesko.
Rumours have linked Leipzig with a possible swap deal for Christopher Nkunku, who previously had a strong spell with the Bundesliga side. However, the France international is said to be prioritising clubs with European football – something RB Leipzig don’t have for the first time in nearly a decade.
Despite this hiccup, it appears that Simons will become a Chelsea player, with the former PSG and Barcelona youth doing everything in his power to make sure the deal goes through.
