Fermin Lopes responds to Man Utd rumours

Although there has been speculation that Fermin Lopes might join Man Utd from Barcelona, Romano has said this is a deal that is not open – and now the player has reiterated that fact.

“Fermin Lopes has gone public after scoring two goals against Como and says: ‘I’m staying.’ Barca fans can be relaxed. He’s going nowhere,” he told YouTube.

“There were rumours about Man Utd being really interested in Ferman Lopes. United are looking for a midfielder but the understanding is that for him there is nothing. I told you last week that was the case and now the player has done the same. Now we’ve got clarity on that story directly from the player.”

Romano does not forecast any departure for Ferran Torres either.

He said: “It’s an important moment for Barcelona. After selling Inigo Martinez to Al-Nassr, which is already official, but there are rumours tonight that they now want to sign Ferran Torres.

“These stories are not true. Ferran Torres is not negotiating with Al-Nassr. They have no interest in him. They’ve already signed Joao Felix and trying to get Kingsley Coman. They’re not working on Ferran Torres. He’s not seeking to leave Barcelona, even if he’s not a regular starter. Every time he plays, he shows why he’s a Barca player. Nothing at all on this one.”

Man Utd still pushing to sign Baleba

Following reports on Sunday that Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has agreed personal terms with Man Utd, Romano has given his take on the situation.

He explains: “Contacts will continue for Carlos Baleba. It’s a difficult deal and a tough negotiation with Brighton. But Man Utd are still in contact with the agents. They’re in active talks on the player’s side.

“Then there’s going to be the difficult part. Man Utd want to try to understand what will happen with Brighton. They want to make an attempt. But on the club side it remains difficult.

“Man Utd are not giving up. Over the weekend, Man Utd remained in conversations with the agents of Baleba.

“Midfielder and goalkeeper are two positions we need to keep an eye on at Man Utd before the end of this summer transfer market.

“For Baleba, it’s difficult for sure, unlikely for sure, but Man Utd have the feeling the player is open to the move so they’ll try to see what happens.”

Savinho transfer bomb

Tottenham are moving in the transfer market to secure a replacement for James Maddison, who is set to miss out for much of the season after a serious injury.

Romano explains: “Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Savinho from Manchester City. This deal is really concrete. They started talks. Spurs are advancing on a deal. The player is open to the move. Keep an eye on this one.

“There is already first contact between the parties. City don’t want Savinho to leave but if a very big offer comes in, it could happen. Tottenham are going strong after the injury to James Maddison.

“To give you my feeling, this deal, for something around €70m could be a possibility. Savinho to Spurs, the deal is on. Let’s see if they can find an agreement.”

Liverpool have Isak confidence

Alexander Isak is giving Liverpool plenty of reason to believe that they will be able to sign him this summer, despite Newcastle taking a hard-line stance in public that they will not allow him to go.

Romano explains: “Liverpool are not giving up. They feel that Newcastle are still very active in the market to find a striker because they know Isak is not changing his mind. Alexander Isak is not changing his mind, Isak has no intention to return to a normal conversation with Newcastle over a new contract. They maintain their confidence in making a deal happen for Isak. Let’s follow the story but it remains a concrete opportunity.”

Newcastle finding a replacement is likely to be critical to the outcome of Isak’s deal.

“Nicolas Jackson is an option. No confirmation on Randal Kolo Muani, who is in negotiations with Juventus. He wants to go there, and Juventus want to sign him,” he says.

“For Newcastle, the topic now is Nicolas Jackson and more options being considered. This can be an important part of the story to understand more on Alexander Isak. We’ll follow this one but the plan of Isak remains to become a Liverpool player.”
