Xavi Simons forces Chelsea to CHANGE transfer plan
Chelsea are expected to sign RB Leipzig superstar Xavi Simons this summer and his imminent arrival will have a major impact on the future of Tyrique George.
George, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Stamford Bridge last term and he was the main beneficiary of Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension for a positive doping test.
The England U19 international made 26 first-team appearances across all competitions last season, scoring three goals, and he played a key role in Chelsea’s triumphant Europa Conference League campaign.
However, Chelsea have reportedly decided that he will be sent out on loan for the duration of the 2025-26 season.
George was initially likely to remain in west London next year, but he will fall behind Simons in the pecking order once the Dutchman completes his move to Stamford Bridge, while Alejandro Garnacho will also provide immense competition if he joins the club from Manchester United.
As a result, a loan move is on the cards.
That is according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, who told the London is Blue podcast: “Chelsea believe Tyrique’s development would be better served out on loan, because they feel he had a breakthrough season at the end of last season, and now he needs to try and play more regularly, and sitting on the bench would do him no good.”
Chelsea close in on Xavi Simons
Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle over personal terms with Simons, although talks with RB Leipzig are yet to conclude.
However, the Netherlands international has set his sights on completing a move to Enzo Maresca’s side and he failed to turn up to Leipzig training on Friday in an attempt to force through a transfer.
Simons scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions last season, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €67.5m.
