Chelsea remain firmly interested in signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, and Fabrizio Romano has now explained precisely why the Blues are so keen on him.

The young attacker currently finds himself on the outside looking in at Old Trafford, after being bluntly told by Ruben Amorim to find a new club following the Europa League final last season.

Garnacho has been included in Man Utd's 'Bomb Squad' of players they are looking to move on before the deadline, and Chelsea have been in talks to sign him for several weeks now.

There has yet to be a breakthrough in the negotiations as Man Utd reportedly value the 21-year-old at over €50 million, while Chelsea are reluctant to pay more than €40m.

Some progress has been made in recent days, but it seems that there is still some way to go before Garnacho can get his desired move. The Argentine has made it clear to his suitors that he only wants Chelsea and recently rebuffed an approach from Bayern.

Why Chelsea want to sign Garnacho

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now detailed precisely why Chelsea are so interested in a player who has a reputation of being inconsistent and a difficult character.

"Chelsea, from what I'm hearing, believe that Garnacho has, first of all, a lot of potential, can develop into a really, really important player," Romano explained.

"He is already a player who has been on the big stage for many years. It's already been two or three years that we constantly hear the name of Garnacho as a big talent, as a player for Man Utd. Last season was not the best, but in the last two, three years, we always heard about Garnacho.

"And, you know what? Garnacho turned 21 in July this year. He is still very young, so Chelsea see a value in Garnacho. Maybe you can sign the player - we will see what the fee is going to be, if it's £35m, £40m. But for sure, they see a value here.

"They see a value to have the player to [help him] develop to become an important player for the future, to make an impact at Chelsea, and they believe that this is a player probably worth a completely different amount of money from what is the request right now from Man Utd.

"So, Chelsea believe that this is a big, big opportunity on the market. They really like the player, they like his potential and they are convinced that in a different environment, after difficult months at Man Utd, he can really turn into an important player for Enzo Maresca."
