Leandro Trossard agrees new Arsenal contract
Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard has agreed a new deal with the club, but the duration of the contract remains unchanged.
The Belgium international has been the subject of rampant speculation all year due to his contract situation. Trossard's previous deal ran until 2026, with the option for a further season, and talks with Arsenal were slow to progress.
The lack of an extension saw a host of clubs express an interest in the 30-year-old this summer, chiefly Brentford and Aston Villa, as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers.
The situation was also influenced by Arsenal's public courtship of high-profile left-wingers such as Nico Williams, Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze. An arrival in that position would have diminished Trossard's role in the Gunners' squad.
However, Arsenal have not been able to find the right reinforcement for the left wing, and instead opted to bring in Noni Madueke, who is a natural right-winger but who can also deputise on the other flank.
Trossard receives Arsenal pay rise
With no big-money left-winger signing on the horizon, Arsenal have now given Trossard a pay rise to better reflect his role as a valued member of Mikel Arteta's squad.
Surprisingly, this new deal for the Belgian does not extend his employment with Arsenal. According to The Athletic, Trossard's fresh terms still expire in 2027.
The report adds that there are 'no significant developments' regarding a potential transfer of the versatile attacker at present. He will therefore remain an Arsenal player beyond the summer - but on better pay.
Arsenal fans have not taken the news well, with a large section of supporters online criticising the club's perceived 'lack of ambition.' They clearly would have preferred a marquee left-wing arrival rather than a pay rise for an ageing squad player.
It must be said, though, that Trossard has been a very reliable servant to Arsenal and Arteta since his arrival in January 2023.
