Arsenal ROCKED as wonderkid QUITS club
Arsenal have been rocked by the news that wonderkid Dan Casey is set to quit the club in order to join Crystal Palace.
The 18-year-old enjoyed an outstanding last season, scoring 18 goals in 21 games for the Under-18s side in the Premier League.
However, Standard Sport has confirmed some earlier stories that Casey has rejected a professional contract offer from Arsenal.
Instead, the out of contract Casey has opted to join Crystal Palace.
Standard Sport report that Palace will pay Arsenal a compensation fee for the player.
Arsenal will also have a sell-on clause in Casey's Palace contract.
It is a big blow for Arsenal, who have lost a number of young starlets in recent years - including Ayden Heaven to Man Utd earlier this year.
Who is Dan Casey?
Born in London in 2007, the versatile attacker is eligible to represent both England and Italy at the international level.
Casey had spent most of his youth with Arsenal, joining the North London outfit's academy in 2015. All told, he scored 24 goals in 35 appearances for the Gunners' U18s.
The youngster is expected to initially play with Palace's U21s, but he has clearly been presented with a development path that will lead him directly to Oliver Glasner's first team further down the road.
Casey is primarily an attack-minded player, but he has also previously featured in more withdrawn midfield roles. He can also play as a striker and out on the wings.
