Man Utd deal collapses as Nkunku transfer battle EXPLODES into life
Inter have entered the race for Chelsea outcast Christopher Nkunku amid their unsuccessful pursuit of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund.
The Serie A giants are in the midst of a summer of massive change. Successful manager Simone Inzaghi has left for Al-Hilal, midfield maestro Hakan Calhanoglu is pushing for a move away, and the squad is filled with ageing stars.
One area where Inter are not short of options is the forward position, yet somewhat surprisingly, the Nerazzurri are determined to bolster that department this summer.
Despite already boasting Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and promising youngster Francesco Pio Esposito, Inter have signed Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma for a sizeable €23 million, and they are not done yet.
Inter have kept contact with Man Utd flop Rasmus Hojlund alive in recent weeks, but their chances of signing the Dane have dropped. Not only is Hojlund keen to fight for his place at Old Trafford, but Inter are also favouring an initial loan move, whereas Man Utd want a sale.
Inter interested in Nkunku
With a deal for Hojlund looking unlikely as things stand, Inter have now identified a new target, according to Sky Sports. It is claimed that Chelsea outcast Christopher Nkunku has caught the Champions League finalists' eye.
The Frenchman is keen to leave Chelsea after failing to nail down a regular starting spot in the Premier League, and Nkunku was desperate to complete a move to Bayern Munich in January. The deal ultimately fell through, but the Bavarians remain interested.
Inter have now also joined the race for the 27-year-old, but it is thought that a move may be contingent on offloading Mehdi Taremi first. The odds of a deal will also massively depend on Chelsea's asking price.
The Blues demanded €70m for Nkunku in January, which his suitors felt was unreasonable. The versatile forward may be available for slightly less this summer, but signing him permanently would still require a massive outlay.
