Benjamin Sesko 'IMPRESSED' by Man Utd with 'offer ready'
Manchester United's efforts to sign Benjamin Sesko haven't gone unnoticed, but Newcastle remain firmly in the mix for the RB Leipzig striker, according to German media.
The race to sign the Slovenia international is down to two clubs. With Arsenal having signed Viktor Gyokeres, Sesko appeared to lose his best option of securing a move to a top Premier League side.
Reports began to emerge in Germany that Sesko was content to stay at Leipzig for another season, but it seems that it may not have to come to this after all.
In recent days, both Man Utd and Newcastle have formalised their long-standing interest in Sesko and opened talks with the player's camp. The Red Devils have been searching for a new striker all summer, while the Magpies are preparing for the departure of Alexander Isak.
So far, the 22-year-old has not revealed his preference, and this has prevented either club from placing an official bid. However, the steps being taken in courting the player are leaving an impression.
Sesko impressed by Man Utd
At least that is according to Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Sesko has been left 'impressed' by Man Utd's efforts to sign him. The Red Devils are 'not giving up' on the player and have presented a detailed financial and sporting proposal.
However, the journalist also insists that the race is far from decided. Newcastle are 'not backing down' and are ready to go big for the Slovenian. Indeed, the Magpies could submit their opening bid any minute.
Newcastle immediately focused their attention on Sesko when Isak informed the club that he had begun exploring his options. The Saudi-backed Carabao Cup winners have made it clear to Leipzig that money won't be an issue; they just need encouragement that he wants the move.
Leipzig are reportedly demanding an upfront fee of €80m, with an additional €5m-€10m in potential bonuses. Man Utd are unlikely to be able to afford such a package right now and first need to make sales before they can actually set about signing Sesko.
