Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Hugo Ekitike to take a major step closer to securing a transfer for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

Ekitike has agreed a six-year deal with the Reds, according to RMC. However, there is currently no club-to-club agreement between Liverpool and Frankfurt.

The Premier League giants are already locked in talks with their Bundesliga counterparts to try to push through a deal that would represent another big step in their historic summer transfer window.

Ekitike is set to become the Reds’ fourth major signing of the summer, following Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

Another blockbuster Liverpool transfer

It looks likely that Liverpool will break the bank for a second time this summer to sign Ekitike. The Reds have already shattered their transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial €125 million.

Bild reports that the Anfield club are ready to match the France international striker’s release fee of €100m.

“A transfer of the skilful striker to the Reds is becoming increasingly likely. Liverpool have reportedly already signalled to Frankfurt that they will pay the requested transfer fee,” the German source reports.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool have even made an offer to Frankfurt.

“Liverpool have submitted an official bid to Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike!” he says on X.

“Eintracht already informed Liverpool that they want more. The proposal was rejected but it was initial contact as talks continue.

“Ekitike said yes to Liverpool, no issues on personal terms.”

It was previously reported by The Guardian that Arne Slot’s side had failed with an €80m offer for Ekitike. It is unclear if the proposal that Romano claims was rebuffed is an entirely new offer.

There is little doubt, though, that Liverpool are close to securing a deal for Ekitike.

This will not necessarily see the Merseyside outfit drop their interest in Newcastle forward Alexander Isak, with the Reds said to be “toying” with the idea of signing both strikers in what continues to be a historic transfer window at Anfield.
