CONFIRMED: Liverpool take huge step towards Isak deal
Alexander Isak has cleared a major hurdle to become Liverpool’s next signing in what has been a historic summer for the Anfield club.
The Merseyside outfit are heavily linked with a British record deal for the Newcastle United ace, who has gone public on his desire to explore different possibilities this summer.
It is thought that a transfer agreement could be struck around the €170 million mark, and according to Nicolo Schira, the possibility of this being done has taken a significant step forward.
The transfer market specialist claims that there is an agreement in principle between Isak and Liverpool over a five-year contract that has the option of an additional year. Schira reports that a wage of £13 million-per-year has been agreed, meaning that Isak will earn £250,000 per week - a figure that Newcastle were not prepared to offer him.
In total, the 25-year-old Sweden international will earn at least £65m at Anfield should the deal progress.
Isak stepping up exit push
Isak certainly wants the move, with Schira confirming on X: “The striker wants to join Liverpool and is pushing to leave Newcastle. The Reds are set to submit a new bid to try to sign the Swede, who is their main target, this week.”
This comes hours after confirmation that the player has skipped training with Newcastle in an attempt to force a move. Instead, he is thought to be keeping himself fit at home.
It was a plot that compatriot Viktor Gyokeres pulled in order to force his move to Arsenal, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle bow to such pressure given he has three years left on his St James’ Park deal.
Liverpool have already spent a record €300m on transfers this summer, with the Anfield club’s spending set to approach €500m should Isak ultimately leave Newcastle for the Premier League champions.
