Liverpool CLOSE to record Alexander Isak deal as 'talks progressing well'
Liverpool are making progress in discussions with Newcastle over a deal for Alexander Isak, according to a report.
The Reds are not done splashing the cash just yet and, despite a squad investment of well over €300 million already, are likely to finish the summer window with a profit due to the way transfer fees are registered on the financial accounts.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak could be the crown jewel of what has been a record-breaking summer, with Liverpool now engaging in talks with the player and his club.
Isak, a revered figure at St. James' Park, has informed Newcastle of his desire to make the move to Anfield, and the striker has even gone AWOL to force through this transfer.
The Swede is currently using the facilities of his former club Real Sociedad to keep himself fit as he waits for Liverpool and Newcastle to reach an agreement. Personal terms with the Reds are not expected to be an issue.
Liverpool make Isak progress
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the discussions between Liverpool and Newcastle are positive and 'progressing well.' There is confidence within Isak's camp that he will be granted his wish to join the Premier League champions.
Newcastle, it seems, have resigned themselves to losing their star striker and are ready to sell to Liverpool - at the right price. Isak is expected to command a Premier League record fee.
This, in turn, would completely unshackle Newcastle from any lingering Profitability and Sustainability Rules concerns and enable them to produce the kind of ambitious spending that has been promised to fans and players alike by the club's Saudi backers.
The Magpies are keen to bring in Benjamin Sesko, but the Slovenian has yet to make a decision on his next club. Man Utd are also courting him and are believed to be his favoured option, but Newcastle are ready to pay whatever it takes to get him.
