The England U21 international had been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for several months, and he is set to be unveiled as the Blues’ latest signing after an agreement over a €65 million transfer fee was reached.

Gittens scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 49 games for Dortmund last season, and he has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

The 20-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City’s academy back in 2020, and he racked up a total of 107 first-team appearances for the German giants.

Gittens was also identified as a key target by Arsenal ahead of this summer, however, he quickly set his sights on completing a move to Chelsea, and the deal has now been formally announced by Dortmund.

"The talks with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we are pleased that we can most likely realise our financial ambitions and then have planning security," BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl said.

"Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success."

Gittens has become Chelsea’s seventh signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian, Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo, Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr, Independiente del Valle wonderkid Kendry Paez and Brighton forward Joao Pedro.

The 20-year-old is expected to become Chelsea’s new starting left winger, despite his lack of game time during the second half of last season, following Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United and Mykhailo Mudryk’s ongoing doping suspension.

Noni Madueke has been used in an unfamiliar left-wing position for the past few months. However, he is better suited to playing on the right, and he has been heavily linked with a summer exit in recent weeks amid reported interest from Arsenal.

Academy star Tyrique George will also compete with Gittens for a starting berth at Chelsea next season, although he is unlikely to be favoured ahead of the Blues’ latest summer signing.
