Celtic rival Man Utd for Premier League star
Celtic are among the clubs interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to a report.
The 28-year-old is a free agent after turning down a contract extension at Everton, and he is keen to secure a big move for himself. Calvert-Lewin has been offered to various Premier League clubs by intermediaries, including Man Utd.
At present, the 11-time England international is not a priority for the Red Devils, who remain desperate to finally attain a breakthrough in talks with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo.
After Mbeumo, Man Utd want to target a more high-profile striker than Calvert-Lewin, but they may have to turn to him should they fail to find suitable alternatives.
According to CaughtOffside, Man Utd have not outright discarded the idea of adding Calvert-Lewin at some point this window, but the report claims that his wage demands could prove to be a problem.
Celtic want Calvert-Lewin
It is asserted that the striker could ask for as much as £100,000 per week, which the report states is likely to be deemed excessive by Man Utd. Despite these hefty demands, Calvert-Lewin also has suitors elsewhere, suitors who would be even more incapable of matching his salary request.
It is claimed that Celtic are among the clubs keen on the Englishman, while there are also other admirers from around Europe and beyond. If his salary demands turn out to be correct, a move to Parkhead appears highly improbable.
It is not entirely surprising that the Hoops are keeping an eye on a player like Calvert-Lewin, though. Adam Idah, despite scoring 20 goals last season, hasn't always been the most convincing figure up top for Brendan Rodgers' side.
Celtic also have young Irish striker Johnny Kenny on the books and recently completed the signing of Callum Osmond from Fulham's reserves. There is clearly room to add one more reliable centre-forward, but it seems unlikely that this player will be Calvert-Lewin.
