The Gunners have already announced the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard so far this summer, while Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera are also expected to arrive in the biggest transfer window in the club’s history.

Arsenal have backed Mikel Arteta in the market as they bid to end a five-year trophy drought, although the imminent signing of Madueke has been met with large-scale anger from Gunners supporters.

Arsenal fans are perhaps simply burned by the memories of ageing Chelsea players floundering upon their arrival at the Emirates Stadium - think Petr Cech, David Luiz and Willian - but Madueke is a different story.

He is a 23-year-old England international who has the raw attributes to become a top-level winger in the European game. He’s not the polished article, granted, but Arsenal are paying a reasonable fee for a player who will provide them with much-needed attacking depth.

All things considered, Madueke should be a solid signing for Arsenal. After all, Arteta is a fantastic coach and Kai Havertz is living proof that forwards are able to drastically improve upon leaving Chelsea.

The Germany star was a disappointing signing at Stamford Bridge, bar his match-winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final, but Arsenal fans adore him. There’s no reason why Madueke can’t follow suit.

But, what will he bring to north London?

What Arsenal fans should expect from Noni Madueke

Arsenal fans may not think so, but they are signing a player who is already a top Premier League winger.

Madueke’s tally of 10 goal contributions in the English top flight last season was heavily boosted by a hat-trick scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers in late August, so his end product certainly needs to improve. But, he has the fundamentals to work with.

Jeremy Doku (213) was the only Premier League player to register more progressive carries than Madueke last season (154), while his xG per 90 tally of 0.42 was the fourth-best of any winger to play more than 1,000 minutes - behind Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Brennan Johnson.

Madueke is essentially fantastic at advancing play through dribbling, and he combines this with an ability to sniff out goalscoring opportunities. Those are two of the most desirable and important traits that a winger can possess, and Arteta certainly has the coaching pedigree to develop the Englishman into a more reliable player in the final-third.

Madueke constantly looks to drive at his opposite number, rather than play safe football, and when on form, he is one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League.

His ability is hampered when deployed on the left flank, but he is fantastic on the right. Madueke boasts the ability to either dribble inside onto his stronger left foot and fire off a shot or utilise his pace by reaching the byline and delivering a cross. This unpredictable nature means he can be impossible to defend against when he is firing.

Of course, he can certainly go missing in games and his consistency is something that Arteta will need to improve upon his arrival at the Emirates Stadium. However, Madueke is an extremely promising player and he appears to have shaken off the injury troubles that plagued his time at PSV Eindhoven.

As a back-up to Bukayo Saka, Madueke will be an excellent signing and although he may not be the player to fire Arsenal to the title by himself, he will provide them with additional attacking options, which has been identified as a major issue by Arteta.

All in all, Madueke is a smart acquisition by the Gunners, and Arsenal fans’ anger is perhaps misguided.
