The 23-year-old scored both goals in the Club World Cup semi-final win over Fluminense, with Pedro producing two emphatic finishes against his boyhood club in just 60 minutes on the pitch.

The result sent Chelsea through to the final on Sunday where they will face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in a match that could net the winner around €8.75m.

Chelsea have already earned more than €90m for their results so far in the tournament, perhaps justifying their decision to move quickly to splash the cash on summer recruits such as Pedro and Liam Delap, with the latter also featuring regularly in the competition.

The additional capture of Jamie Gittens from Dortmund, who was not signed in time to feature in the tournament, led some fans to believe that Pedro may struggle for minutes at left-wing, with Nicolas Jackson and Delap also to contest with in attack.

However, Pedro’s sensational display, having also impressed in a 36-minute cameo on his debut against Palmeiras, has led fans to believe they have truly signed a gem who could prove to be a huge catalyst for success under Enzo Maresca.

’It’s so over for everyone’ – Chelsea fans react to Pedro performance

Supporters were stunned by Pedro’s 18th minute opener in which he curled in a strike into the top right hand corner from the edge of the box, leading to one tweet calling for Chelsea to ‘send Brighton another £50m’.

Others were already salivating at the thought of Pedro linking up with Cole Palmer as well as Estevao Willian, the teenager who will join Chelsea after also starring for Palmeiras during the tournament.

With the forward having shown his class at Brighton, another fan was quick to compare the forward’s situation to that of Mohammed Kudus and Eberechi Eze, believing that Pedro was proof of how a player’s game can ‘elevate’ around better talent.

However, it wasn’t all positives for Chelsea, with Jackson coming on to replace Pedro only to cause frustration by not squaring the ball to Palmer for an easy goal in the second half, leading to the England international kicking the post in frustration and fans reacting by highlighting the gulf in quality between their forwards.
