Barcelona UNITED over Rashford decision as Amorim has problem taken off his hands
Barcelona unanimously want to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, providing a major boost to Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
The Catalan side were left embarrassed by Nico Williams as the Athletic Club winger, who was clearly their first choice for the left-wing role, signed a new 10-year deal in Bilbao after spending much of the summer flirting with the Camp Nou outfit.
With Liverpool unlikely to accept bids for Luis Diaz at this point, Rashford has emerged as the standout candidate for Barcelona, despite the fact that he is coming off arguably the worst season of his career.
Speaking to TBR Football, transfer insider Graham Bailey says: “Barcelona have always maintained during recent weeks that they wanted Marcus Rashford along with Nico Williams.
“Barca have remained in communication with Rashford’s camp throughout with Deco and Hansi Flick both keen on bringing him to the club.
“Now with Williams not moving, it certainly makes a deal more likely given he can cover the wide berth and centrally.
“Rashford has always been confident he would end up at Barcelona this summer and that remains the priority. Clearly, Williams not joining does not harm his situation.
“Barca have already had talks with United over a loan deal, which did not progress but they are soon expected to make fresh contact – the Rashford deal will come down to the options and possible obligations that are included.
“The sense I get from all parties is that he will end up in Catalunya.”
Will Barcelona be able to register Rashford?
Barcelona were adamant that they would be able to register Nico Williams, but the camp of the Spain international wanted greater assurances than the Catalan side were prepared to give him.
Will this be a problem with Marcus Rashford?
Barca’s financial situation is unclear, but Rashford will cost less than Nico would have – potentially half as much. Similarly, he has shown a willingness to reduce his Man Utd wages, suggesting that there will be no problems for the Blaugrana.
