Viktor Gyokeres has not managed the quick transfer that he might have hoped for this summer, yet the Sporting CP striker remains “confident” that he will move to the Premier League.

Gyokeres’ summer has not been without drama. Interest has come from England via Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United, but the real talking point in recent days has been the deterioration with his relationship with Sporting.

When the summer began, the understanding was that a bid of €70 million would trigger a transfer, yet the president of the Lisbon side has said that due to the attitude of the player’s agent, they might hold out for the full €100m value of his release clause.

With this soap opera raging in the background, Record reports Gyokeres is still “confident” that he will move to the Premier League. Interest primarily comes, though, from Atletico Madrid and Juventus – clubs that he would appear to be treating as fallback options.

Viktor Gyokeres: The state of play

Arsenal have been Gyokeres’ main pursuers over the course of the last 18 months but Record now reports that they have “frozen” their interest in the Sweden international. Instead, they are chasing a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, although the concern here is that RB Leipzig are demanding too much money for the Slovenia international.

Although Man Utd are said to be interested in Gyokeres still, the player had given them official notice that he is not keen to move to Old Trafford this summer, Portuguese reports previously indicated. Fabrizio Romano, though, says that that Red Devils are still pushing, suggesting that this remains a serious possibility.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already moved to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich, and while the possibility of adding another striker to their ranks should not be ruled out, this would tend to suggest that Gyokeres’ has been pushed to one side by the Blues for now.

Similarly, Newcastle do not appear to be in a rush to add to their ranks with Alexander Isak looking all but certain to remain at St. James’ Park.
