Eintracht Frankfurt have slapped a whopping €100 million price tag on Hugo Ekitike, and the reasons for this inflated demand are quite bizarre, according to German media.

The Frenchman is coming off a great season with the Eagles. Ekitike scored 22 goals and notched 12 assists across all competitions, with Frankfurt qualifying for the Champions League via the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.

Naturally, Ekitike's performances have attracted the attention of English clubs, and it has been claimed for weeks and even months that Frankfurt 'expect' the 23-year-old to leave the club this summer.

However, Frankfurt are under absolutely no pressure to sell, and they are therefore not going to let their star striker depart on the cheap. Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool have all enquired about the exciting forward, but all three have received the same response: he is only available for €100m.

Unsurprisingly, there have been no concrete developments regarding a move because of this. To be sure, Ekitike is brilliant, but he's not a €100m player - yet.

Why Ekitike costs €100m

According to BILD, there are several reasons for Frankfurt slapping such a hefty price tag on Ekitike. Bizarrely, the fact that he is under contract until 2029 and that Frankfurt don't need the money is not mentioned.

Instead, however, it is claimed that one of the justifications is that he is French. You read that right. Sources have supposedly told the German outlet that "Frankfurt value him higher for this reason."

The report explains: "A Frenchman is worth significantly more than, say, a Swede or a Dane. Simply because the probability of their nation winning a title is higher."

The more believable reasons are, for example, the so-called "market situation," with the publication pointing out that there is a huge demand for elite strikers but only a limited supply.

The Club World Cup is another reason due to its handsome prize money. Chelsea could stand to earn north of €100m if they were to win the tournament.

Ekitike is a versatile player and has huge potential, which has naturally also informed Frankfurt's price tag. Finally, Frankfurt believe that their reputation also plays a part. They are consistently producing top-level talent and selling it for huge fees, so why should Ekitike be any different?

Ultimately, however, the outlet acknowledges that there is a scenario in which Ekitike stays put as suitors simply don't value him that highly. Chelsea, it is claimed, would be ready to pay around €80m for him, but not €100m.
