Morgan Rogers: Arsenal target cut-price deal as Aston Villa face major transfer decision

Arsenal could prey on Aston Villa’s PSR struggles this summer by targeting a cut-price move for Morgan Rogers after identifying the England international as one of their transfer targets.
Villa are understood to be at major risk of violating PSR ahead of the accounting deadline on June 30th and they will likely be forced into a significant sale before then.
While Unai Emery’s side are hoping to cash in on Emi Martinez and would consider Ollie Watkins’ departure, Rogers is a player coveted by many after his impressive breakout campaign for Villa.
And, according to The Times, Mikel Arteta has taken a shine to Rogers, having prioritised the need to add quality to his attacking options, ideally through a versatile young star with Premier League experience.
With Arsenal also operating under relatively tight constraints this summer, Rogers would be a solution to cover a number of areas in Arteta’s squad by providing depth as a left winger, attacking midfielder and even as a makeshift striker.
However, Arsenal are aware that the 22-year-old would command a major fee and are also considering cheaper alternatives, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City likely to compete in any battle for Rogers.
Arsenal eyeing cheaper alternatives to top target to address Arteta needs
Having all but agreed the €60 million capture of Martin Zubimendi, Arsenal may need to get creative to address all their transfer concerns this summer, with a number nine, defender and potentially another midfielder all areas Arteta would ideally like to strengthen in.
Even with their PSR issues, Villa would likely demand more than Rogers’ ETV of €66.4m, with the youngster contracted until 2030 and Arsenal are understood to have added Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao to their shortlist as a more affordable option.

Paixao grabbed 16 goals and 10 assists in the league primarily from the wing, as well as being named Dutch Footballer of the Year and his ETV of €38.8m would prove far more feasible, with Liverpool also having been linked with a move.
Nico Williams remains high on Arsenal’s shortlist but the Gunners have baulked at his wage demands, thought to be in excess of €250,000-per-week, while the situation is similar with Leroy Sane despite the Bayern Munich star being available on a free transfer.
