Liverpool ‘SURGE’ to sign Chelsea and Newcastle target as summer spending tops €250m

Liverpool’s lavish transfer spending this summer could continue as Arne Slot’s side line up a blockbuster move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The Reds have already completed a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen while it appears likely that his club-mate Florian Wirtz will follow. On top of this, Milos Kerkez is close to joining the Anfield club from Bournemouth.
Now Arne Slot’s side are making waves for Crystal Palace centre-back Guehi in a surprise swoop that offers a blow to Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Chelsea, both of whom have been tracking the 24-year-old. Inter have also been following the player.
Liverpool have “thundered” into the race for Guehi, according to TeamTalk, which also reports that Manchester United are tracking the player.
Although he is not officially up for sale, with just a year left on his contract with the Eagles, this could be the FA Cup winners’ last chance to sell the player for his full value.
No fee has been suggested, but Guehi boasts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €54.2 million.

Strengthening an already formidable unit
Guehi would join a powerful central defensive group at Anfield, where Virgil van Dijk recently committed to a new contract after being linked with a move away from the club.
The England defender would compete with the Dutchman and Ibrahima Konate for a starting spot, with Joe Gomez likely playing backup as Jarell Quansah is linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool signings summer 2025
Name | From | Fee | Status |
Florian Wirtz | Bayer Leverkusen | €130m | Pending |
Marc Guehi | Crystal Palace | €55m | Rumour |
Milos Kerkez | Bournemouth | €50m | Pending |
Jeremie Frimpong | Bayer Leverkusen | €40m | Official |
The signing would leave Liverpool with the strongest group of centre-backs in the Premier League by some distance.
Indeed, this deal would reaffirm the Reds’ commitment to signing top-class players this summer but also their fearlessness when it comes to splashing out.
Liverpool are on course for a record transfer spend this summer, with Slot’s side set to be reinforced by well over €250m worth of talent.
