Chelsea enquire about Malick Fofana - David Ornstein

Chelsea have verbally registered their interest in Olympique Lyon winger Malick Fofana, according to French media and David Ornstein.
The Blues are in the market for a new left-winger after deciding not to keep Jadon Sancho following his loan from Man Utd, with Chelsea paying a €6 million penalty fee to override their purchase obligation.
With Mykhailo Mudryk still banned for allegedly failing a drug test, signing a new wide player is seen as an urgent priority by the Stamford Bridge club, and Chelsea thought that they had found their solution in the first window of this summer.
Chelsea were in constant contact with Borussia Dortmund for England youth international Jamie Gittens during the special 10-day window at the start of June, but no agreement could ultimately be reached.
The Blues failed with several bids for the 20-year-old, and even a late flurry of Deadline Day talks yielded no results as Dortmund insisted on a whopping €65 million fee.
Chelsea make Fofana contact
Chelsea are not expected to give up on Gittens, but they are also identifying alternative options should Dortmund continue to demand what is frankly a hugely inflated fee for a player who is still quite raw.
According to L'Equipe and confirmed by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea have now informed Olympique Lyon of their interest in Malick Fofana.

The Belgium international is one of the names now being considered by the West London giants, although it is important to mention that no formal talks have so far taken place. Chelsea merely made verbal contact to enquire about the 20-year-old.
Fofana is coming off an encouraging season that saw him score 11 goals and add six assists. He announced himself to an English audience with an impressive performance against Man Utd at Old Trafford in the Europa League late in the campaign.
