Chelsea are weighing up the possibility of a shock move for one of Liverpool’s Premier League champions but have been told to stump up nearly €60 million to get a deal done.

Harvey Elliott has been linked with a sensational switch to the West London side from Liverpool, with CaughtOffside reporting that the Blues are seriously weighing up the possibility of a deal.

Elliott has struggled to break into the Anfield club’s first team on a regular basis under either Jurgen Klopp and now Arne Slot, and it may be that he chooses to move on this summer after leading England to the final of the U21 European Championship.

It is claimed that he is open to a move, and there are a string of clubs starting to line up to sign him. Brighton, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with the 22-year-old, who has a contract until 2027.

Chelsea have now joined this group of suitors but have been told they have ground to make up in the race to sign Elliott.

“The most concrete interest has come from Brighton,” CaughtOffside reports an unnamed source as having said. “They have identified Elliott as their number one target for the summer transfer window and are preparing a formal offer of £40 million.”

It is added that former Liverpool midfielder Milner could also “play a role in facilitating the move”, which would also guarantee regular first-team football.

Harvey Elliott: A good fit for Chelsea?

Chelsea are a good fit for Harvey Elliott, especially if he is confident about his ability to improve and break into the first team.

Data analytics firm SciSports has some concerns that he could run into a lack of game time with the West London club, which could be an issue if he is desperate for first-team football. On the other hand, Enzo Maresca’s style and formation is perfect for the midfielder.

Liverpool’s asking price is not outrageous, according to SciSports. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €48.5m, so while the Merseyside club’s asking price is a little above that figure, it seems a natural point to begin negotiations.

Elliott to Chelsea is a move that could work, but it would still constitute a major shock if Liverpool were to sell to a direct rival.
